A couple weeks ago the Obama campaign, with the full force of the Federal government behind the President, attacked a number of Mitt Romney’s campaign donors.

We here at Steven Birn Speaks believe that it was inappropriate for the President’s campaign to do this and we suggested that Romney’s campaign not respond. So far it doesn’t appear that they have. (for the record we have no problem if individuals want to look at donors, it’s only the campaigns that should refrain) If we’re going to look at Romney’s campaign donors and make a big deal out of who they work for or what they believe, then it’s fair game for bloggers to take a look at Obama’s campaign donors. We’ll take a look at some of his bundlers today. Obama lists his bundlers on his website. We have also included a more detailed list from Open Secrets.

Jon Corzine is a $500,000+ bundler. As head of MF Global, Corzine was involved in a potentially illegal bet concerning the Greek market. He allegedly illegally funneled money from accounts into this bet, which ultimately lost $1 billion. Joe Biden apparently calls this guy for advice on the economy and no that isn’t a joke. Because of Corzine’s actions MF Global account holders lost a billion dollars and MF Global is in danger of bankruptcy which would cost any number of people their jobs. That of course hasn’t stopped him from bundling over a half million in donations for Obama.

In 2008 George Kaiser bundled $50,000-100,000 for Obama’s campaign. Kasier was the billionaire big shot behind Solyndra. There are two people connected to Solyndra, who likely benefitted from the $500+ million loan given to the company and who are connected to the Energy Department who have bundled for Obama’s 2012 campaign. Steve Spinner and Steve Westly both bundled over $500,000 for Obama. Solyndra you’ll recall was given a $500 million Federal loan which the government knew was risky. They ultimately filed for bankruptcy but not before handing off lavish golden parachutes to executives. Taxpayers lost half a billion and 1,100 people lost their jobs.

James Brewster bundled over $500,000. Brewster is associated with General Growth Properties which filed a bankruptcy and cost several hundred people their job. Sally Susman is a $500,000 bundler who works for Pfizer which laid off 4,200 people last year. David Hill is a $200,000 bundler who works for Verizon which has laid of several thousand over the last few years. Since Obama attacked the political views of one of Romney’s donors, it should be noted that Kevin Jennings of the Gay Lesbian & Straight Education Network, a radical leftist organization trying to force the public to view perversion as normal, is a $50,000-100,000 bundler for Obama.

One of the more interesting campaign bundlers is David Cohen, the Executive Vice President of Comcast. Cohen has bundled over $500,000 for the Obama campaign. His bundle is likely over $1 million. Why is this interesting? Comcast owns 51% of NBC. The other 49% is owned by General Electric. GE’s CEO Jeffrey Immelt sits on Obama’s economic advisory board. So 49% of NBC’s ownership sits in the White House and advises Obama, the other 51% has bundled over $1 million for the President. Is there any question that NBC is in the bag for Obama?

Obama’s campaign bundlers are a who’s who of Hollywood producers and starlets, trial lawyers from powerful big city law firms and business elites. The Obama campaign wants to make a big deal over a handful of Romney donors who may have cost Americans jobs or messed up a company. We can do that and worse with Obama’s list of bundlers alone. Jon Corzine is arguably an outright criminal, the Solyndra boys cost taxpayers over $500 million and we now have direct evidence of NBC’s bias. We’re just scratching the surface here, there are other Energy Department loans that have been linked to Obama bundlers and employees of Goldman Sachs and other investment houses who have helped mess up the economy are big bundlers. Is this the sort of game Obama really wants to play with Romney?

In 2008 the Obama campaign made a big deal about how singularly unique (I know rhetorically repetitive–just like his campaign) then candidate Obama was.

He was “The One” who could take our post racial nation to a plateau of greater unity. He was “The One” who would leave behind the “bitter divisiveness” of previous administrations. He was “The One” who would create a greater tomorrow, by calling us to ALL be “one.”

Without ever using the term “messiah” it was clear the campaign’s effort was to make him as messianic a figure as possible. A strategy I was on record–at the time–saying would be certain trouble for any candidate who ever yearned for a second term in office. No one listened and election day came. It was a historic win–in the ethnicity of the winning candidate. It was a very average–nearly boring–win in the vote tallies. Despite a brutal campaign, terrible organizational issues, and a candidate who didn’t seem to want it very badly, the GOP lost by not all that much. Or said better, Obama eked out a win–not very impressive for “The One.”

In 2012 the Romney campaign has the potential to purposefully focus on the singular nature of President Barack Obama once again.

For if the history books will record the first term victory of Barack Obama as important, and historic, certainly this election is worth comparing.

Because for now, there is just one man, who stands in the way of helping America finally recover.

Just “one” man stands in the way of allowing TransCanada to install and re-route–both physically and symbolically–a new path to America’s independent energy future in the construction and establishment of the Keystone pipeline. As the company has submitted their necessary paperwork and applications the company is giving America and “The One” one last chance to establish this core component to the harvesting of America’s own energy.

Just “one” man stands in the way of allowing energy to be recovered from 4000 gulf rigs, 3,999 who were all operating safely until the BP oil spill. Ironically it was “The One” and his sidekick Salazar who refused to take action in advance of the BP spill, when the engineers on the rig were begging the federal government for help in the matter. But few could explain “The One’s” overreach by executive fiat in flat-lining all of the remaining oil rigs in the gulf.

Just “one” man stands in the way of greater border enforcement in America’s southwest. From Texas to California, the states that border Mexico are far more familiar with the crime, the violence, the infiltration and the drugs. And that was all before “The One’s” justice department began to allow dangerous automatic weapons to be smuggled to terrorists who would then turn and use them against American citizens. To date over 1400 weapons that “The One” allowed to be trafficked have yet to be “recovered.”

Just “one” man stands in the way of allowing states to also choose the best way to pass laws, protect its citizens, and reduce crime and public resource drain by controlling the issue of illegal immigration. “The One” is going to need to absorb a fairly firm body blow on suing a state to attempt to remove that state’s sovereignty, but the nation could help the process along by just removing the one man who prevents as much.

Just “one” man stands in the way of genuine health care reform–based on free markets–that reinstate incentive, competition, quality care, and genuine doctor/patient interaction to be the core concern of medical treatment in America. Not content with having his lawyers embarrassed in arguments and questioning earlier this spring, this last week “The One” sent additional arguments through the mechanism of “reply briefs” attempting to argue on paper that the disruption to current Medicare services would be too great for the court to possibly consider deciding against “The One.”

Just “one” man stands in the way of the opportunity for small businesses to grow, and for jobs to return to the American main street as a way of life.

Just “one” man stands in the way of allowing people of conscience to not be forced to pay for the death of unborn children, condoms for irresponsible people (so irresponsible they evidently are incapable or prioritizing their own spending habits so as to buy their own condoms), or $3000 worth of birth-control for any woman who has her hand out.

Just “one” man stands in the way of an increase in American production. Just “one” man stands in the way of America renewing her friendship with Israel. Just “one” man stands in the way of ending America’s continued subservience to Saudi kings, or Japanese emperors. Just “one” man stands in the way of lower gas prices, more vibrant markets, and a resurgence in the spirit of the American entrepreneur.

Campaign Team Obama may have wished to paint the then Senator as “The One” in 2008, and argue that he would bring with him the keys to prosperity and success. But from racism, to immigration, to employment, to even the nation’s highest court, the “one” was incapable of accomplishing anything helpful, more often frozen with paralysis than leading from the front.

It’s time to remove at least just “one” man, and watch the flow of healing and progress begin.

For if just “one” man is capable of blocking energy development, job growth, economic development, reductions in illegal immigration, the free expression of people’s personal religious and moral beliefs, strong relationships with our most cherished allies, and even the right for states to govern themselves…

Imagine what he’d do with just “four more!”

The Obama campaign has put out a slightly bizzare website titled the “Life of Julia.” It details the fictional Julia’s cradle to grave dependence on government and purports to show how Mitt Romney and the dastardly Republicans would “change her story”. We could spend time discussing how in three years Obama has already changed Julia’s life story by making the economy worse, thus costing dear Julia $4,000 in annual real income loss. We could discuss how the elderly Julia has been hurt by Obamacare, which cut $500 billion from Medicare.

Going back and forth over Julia herself takes away from the real issue with this Obama campaign website. There are two things at play here, first is Obama’s clear belief in cradle to grave government involvement in our lives. Second, it’s clear that Obama isn’t trying to appeal to moderates and independents anymore. He’s betting that he can get his base out in the sort of numbers he had in 2008.

Julia’s life begins with headstart, a program that doesn’t really work all that well and costs a fortune. But it sounds like a good idea and that’s all that really matters. She then is dependant on Federal education funding, never mind that most Americans want local government control rather than Federal control. She’s dependant on government loans and tax credits for college, never mind the tax credits are for her folks and not for her. She’s dependent on government to force her employer to pay for $5 a month birth control pills. Apparently without Obamacare Julia would be incapable of obtaining healthcare, nevermind that she’s a college graduate. She’s even dependant on government to help her start a business.

In short, Julia is incapable of doing anything on her own without government providing her with either a program or some other form of assistance. We could take it a step further, Julia could even ask the government what she should eat for dinner. Isn’t this what Mrs. Obama is after? What we see here in Julia is the Obama dream woman, completely dependant on government. That’s what he wants for all of us, that’s what he meant when he said he wanted to “fundamentally transform America.” We don’t have an across the board cradle to grave welfare state, Obama wants to give us one.

What we also see in Julia though is that Obama has given up on independent voters. He’s trying to play the war on women card but what he’s really trying to do is shore up the 55% of women who voted for him in 2008. Keep in mind, Romney is doing no worse than McCain with women. Obama desperately needs to shore up his 2008 voters and ensure they come out to vote in November. Julia isn’t aimed at the 45% who voted for McCain and are nearly certain to vote for Romney. She’s aimed at his own voters, he’s trying to scare them into voting for him again despite the fact that his policies have been a disaster for women and in fact all Americans.

We’re going to see a lot more of this over the next six months. Obama is going to increase the divisive rhetoric as he tries to scare each group into voting for him. There will be no campaigning to white working class men who are swing voters. Instead, Obama will focus on getting out the black vote by playing the race card and touting various welfare programs, he’ll focus on Hispanic voters and try to scare them into supporting him again and he’ll focus on women. He isn’t after getting more votes, he’s interested in getting his 2008 voters to come back in 2012 out of fear of the alternative.

This is what Mr. Hope and Change has been reduced to, a campaign of fear and division. Whether it works remains to be seen. In 2010 the GOP picked up a good percentage of Obama’s Hispanic voters, they also picked up a portion of black voters more in line with their historical 10-15%. Young voters aren’t as enthralled with Obama today as they were in 2008. Not surprising considering the fact that 50% of college graduates can’t find jobs and young unemployment is over 20%. Obama is going to have a hard time scaring some of these groups into stuffing the ballot boxes in November. Obama clearly thinks gimmicks like Julia will convince current female fence sitters who voted for him in 2008 to vote for him again this year.
