Rand Paul Launches Campaign to End the TSA

New legislation would abolish government involvement in airport security.

Senator Rand Paul has issued a press release in which he vows to lead the charge to “end the TSA” and put a stop to the needless and humiliating groping of toddlers and grandmothers.

Earlier this year, Paul was detained by the TSA after refusing to submit to an invasive pat down after already having passed through a body scanner. The incident prompted national headlines and caused the Senator to miss his flight.

“It’s time to END the TSA and get the government’s hands back to only stealing our wallets instead of groping toddlers and grandmothers,” says Paul in the statement.

The accompanying article sent out to Campaign for Liberty members encourages recipients to sign a petition in support of Rand Paul’s ‘End the TSA’ bill.

The legislation would forcibly privatize the TSA and kick government out of airport security entirely. A recently passed bill actually allows airports to replace TSA screeners with private security but they have to go through a complex TSA permission process to do so, meaning only a handful of small airports have applied to evict the TSA.

Financial contributions are also being sought to launch a “full, targeted media campaign to convince representatives and senators to either get on board or be held responsible for this continuing outrage.” A previous ‘End the TSA Money Bomb’ started by Congressman Ron Paul following his son’s treatment at the hands of the federal agency has already raised over $1.6 million dollars.

The email points out that the TSA’s invasive and dangerous body scanners have been proven to be completely useless, most recently by engineer Jon Corbett who was able to fool the device by simply sowing an object into a side pocket.

The email lists a handful of recent TSA outrages amidst the deluge that occur on a weekly basis.

- A TSA agent patting down a young girl at New Orleans’ Louis Armstrong International Airport in 2011. The video shows a cooperative family, and when the girl’s mother asks, “Can’t you just re-scan her?” the agent replies, “No” and proceeds to grope the poor child;

- A cancer survivor in Charlotte was forced to remove a prosthetic breast;

- A young mother of a two-week-old infant in Florida was harassed to open the bottles of baby formula she was traveling with on her flight, which would have spoiled the only food available to the infant;

- Detroit TSA officers ignored a man’s warning about a colostomy bag, breaking it and forcing him to board a plane covered in urine.

Read the full text of Rand Paul’s statement below.

Sometimes our liberty slips away silently, and it is almost hard to notice what went wrong and where. The one fortunate thing about the TSA is that they certainly don’t fit that definition.

The American people shouldn’t be subjected to harassment, groping, and other public humiliation simply to board an airplane. As you may have heard, I have some personal experience with this, and I’ve vowed to lead the charge to fight back.

Please read the email below from my friend Matt Hawes at Campaign for Liberty. Campaign for Liberty is leading the fight to pressure Congress to act now and restore our liberty. It’s time to END the TSA and get the government’s hands back to only stealing our wallets instead of groping toddlers and grandmothers.

I hope you will join Campaign for Liberty in this fight.

In Liberty,

Senator Rand Paul

FBI Arrests “Anarchists” in Cleveland Bomb Plot

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Authorities in Cleveland, Ohio, have arrested five self described anarchists in an alleged plot to blow up the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad Brecksville Station and a bridge by remote detonation using C-4 plastic explosives.

Anarchists supposedly plotted to blow up this bridge in Ohio.

Fox News reports that the explosive devices to be used in the plot were inoperable and controlled by an “undercover FBI employee,” according to sources close to the investigation. Both the FBI and the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force are involved in the investigation.

Infowars.com reported last year that virtually all terror plots in the United States are organized by the FBI. A report published by Mother Jones and the Investigative Reporting Program at the University of California-Berkley revealed the FBI recruits patsies and encourages them to engage in terror plots.

Police have routinely used “anarchists” to discredit activists and use their property damage antics as an excuse to attack peaceful demonstrators.

The Cleveland plot follows news on Monday that New York may Michael Bloomberg and six banks in Manhattan received envelopes containing white powder. Five of them were branches of Wells Fargo and one was the Park Avenue headquarters of JPMorgan Chase, according to the New York Times.

“This is a reminder that you are not in control. Just in case you needed some incentive to stop working. We have a little surprise for you. Think fast,” a letter sent to the banks stated. “Happy May Day.”

It didn’t take long for journalists to find the Facebook pages of the suspects. The Cleveland Scene posted screen captures of several of the purported “anarchists” arrested by the government. Most claim to be affiliated with the Occupy movement in Cleveland.

Suspect Brandon Baxter’s (alleged) Facebook profile lists his political views as “anarcho-communist” and #OccupyCleveland as his employment.

OWS supporters should take note. The government is attempting to portray the movement as violent and terrorist. It is doing this because efforts by the establishment to domesticate the movement have largely failed.

Characterizing the movement as terrorist is crucial now that Occupy has announced its resurgence following efforts by New York to run them out of town in November and a concerted effort by the DHS and police around the country to intimidate and harass the movement.

The FBI “sting” in Cleveland follows a pattern established in the 1960s by the FBI. Under COINTELPRO, the government not only attempted to “neutralize” the civil rights and antiwar movements, but created its more radical and violent strains. This fact was underscored when it was revealed that supposed white supremacist Hal Tuner was a prized national security asset.

The latest effort by the government to destroy OWS follows a pattern established following the attacks of September 11, 2001. On numerous occasions, FBI agents provocateurs recruited witless Muslims to participate in orchestrated terrorist plots that were designed to fail and provide the government with propaganda fodder.

This is what the establishment is now doing to the OWS movement. It is now attempting to portray the OWS as a dangerous organization that harbors violent anarchists.

Anarchism – real anarchism, not the clownish government variety – is incompatible with the stated socialist goals of the OWS movement.

Report fails to mention numerous banal activities characterized as suspicious behavior

Despite being the subject of online ridicule for months, flyers put out by the FBI under the ‘Communities Against Terrorism’ program, which frame behavior including using cash to pay for a cup of coffee as a suspicious activity, have been characterized as reasonable by the mainstream media, even as the New York Times admits that the FBI has originated most of the recent terror plots in the United States.

In a bizarrely headlined story entitled Are You a Terrorist?, CBS 12 lends the flyers credence by completely failing to mention the fact that they include a list of mundane behaviors that have nothing to do with terrorism or any relation to “suspicious activity” whatsoever.

As we highlighted earlier this year, one of the flyers sent out to Internet cafes instructs businesses to report people who regularly use cash to pay for their coffee as potential terrorists.

Other examples of suspicious behavior include anyone expressing concern about privacy while surfing online in public, which far from being a ‘suspicious activity’ is almost a prerequisite for using the web these days.

In a flyer issued to Military Surplus stores, the purchase of storable food supplies in bulk, an increasingly popular trend amongst “preppers,” is also defined as a potential indication of terrorism.

Despite the fact that the flyers are virtually useless in identifying real terrorists because they place activities performed by millions of Americans in the context of ‘suspicious behavior’, only serving to create an atmosphere of fear and distrust, the CBS 12 report includes none of the ludicrous examples listed above and instead quotes business owners who think the whole thing is a good idea.

“I think it’s a good list,” said Bernard Greenberg, who owns a hobby shop in Lake Worth, Florida, despite admitting that some of the ‘terrorist traits’ listed in the flyer would be shared by “A lot of people that walk into the store for the first time.”

In other words, treating everyone as ‘terrorist until proven innocent’ is necessary, even down to fathers who are looking to buy their kid a model aircraft as a birthday gift.

“Some of it seems a little bit over the top, but I am sure they have their reasons for what they are doing,” said Scuba Adventures owner Jim Abernathy, again framing the issue as reasonable and rational.

Except that is for the fact that the FBI don’t really have a good reason for what they are doing given that, as even the New York Times reported this past weekend, it’s the FBI itself which steers and provocateurs almost every terror plot from the very beginning.

After listing a number of major terror plots that have made the headlines in recent years, sounding more like Alex Jones than the Old Gray Lady, the report concedes that, “All these dramas were facilitated by the F.B.I., whose undercover agents and informers posed as terrorists offering a dummy missile, fake C-4 explosives, a disarmed suicide vest and rudimentary training. Suspects naïvely played their parts until they were arrested.”

Since the FBI itself has originated most of the major terror plots in the United States, why should a how-to list on spotting terrorists put out by the FBI be given any credibility at all?

The CBS 12 report also fails to mention the plethora of examples from other federal agencies where normal behavior is classified as potential terrorism, including a recent DHS document which lists yawning and getting goose bumps as two primary examples of suspicious activity.

A separate FBI report also reveals that the feds are now treating those who “believe the United States went bankrupt by going off the gold standard” as extremists who are a potential violent threat to law enforcement.

While the deluge of such examples clearly illustrates the trend of federal agencies engaging in fearmongering by brainwashing the public into thinking there’s a terrorist around every corner, the establishment media covers up the fact that the war on terror is being turned against the American people by blithely claiming it’s all normal and reasonable – when it clearly isn’t.

Watch a satire piece below in which Alex Jones is recruited to spot terrorists for Homeland Security.

The Department of Labor: Family Traditions Turned Upside Down

Friday, April 27th, 2012

John Carey
SENTRY JOURNAL

I was fortunate to grow up in the country; my first paying job was working on a farm.

From the time I was 14 until 16 years of age, I spent my summers rotating around the local area between three separate farms working for a couple of dollars an hour haying. I was taught at a very young age that work meant something. It was what men did to provide for their families. Work was so important to my grandfather that his dying wish was when he passed on he would be wearing his work boots. He believed that hard work was the foundation success was built on. When I turned 16 I was hired to work on a township road crew; however I continued to work on part-time basis helping a local farmer until I graduated from high school. I look back on those years with a deep appreciation for everything I learned about work and about life.

One of the farms I worked on was my uncle’s farm. It was a small family farm two houses down the road from our house. During the summer months it was always an all hands on deck family event when it was time to hay. I worked side by side with my cousins loading 70 pound small round bales of hay on a wagon, unloading them and storing it in the haymow. It was hard work done in 80 plus degree weather. I spent most of my time working in a haymow that was easily 10 degrees higher than the outside temperature. At the end of the day we would chug down about a gallon of unsweetened ice tea as a strong sense of accomplishment washed over us. When the work was done and all the hay was stored away in the haymow it was time to play. We never once felt like we were being abused or we were working in some kind of sweat shop. We understood the dangers of working around moving equipment and always had a healthy respect for it. We worked together as a family unit to accomplish a goal because that’s what families did. We felt as if we were part of something special. We learned at a young age about the importance of hard work and achieving success. I acquired skills working around the farm that I still use to this day. The truth is I was blessed to have this opportunity because so many kids never had a chance to experience the natural high you get after completing a hard day’s work. Now the Department of Labor is telling us this was a bad thing.

Most of you have heard how the Department of Labor is proposing a regulation that will prevent kids who grow up on farms from basically doing all things my cousins and I did working on a farm. These masterminds in Washington D.C. believe that somehow a child doing chores on a family farm equates to a violation of child labor laws. This wonderful family farm tradition is now being demonized by an unfeeling bureaucratic system that cares more about how something is done than what is actually getting done. We’re supposed to ignore the fact that this is how family farms have operated in America since before our independence. Now some D.C. bureaucrat is saying we’ve been wrong all along and that these children should not be subjected to these working conditions. They want to crack down on these sweatshops. Not only does this open another door for the government to replace the parent, but it also takes away the opportunity for our young people to learn a valuable skill at a very young age. Can someone please tell me where in the constitution it authorizes some government official the power to usurp the rights of the parent? Once again there is no provision in the constitution that permits this because the constitution is a document designed to RESTRAIN the federal government from doing exactly this.

Below is a video of Senator Jerry Moran discussing this issue on Fox News.

This is what happens in an America when the constitution is ignored by unelected bureaucrats who could care less about our rights. It turns our traditions and history as a nation on its head and forces us to live in an America that’s upside down. It was in 2008 when Michelle Obama said we would need to change our traditions and history. Welcome to Obama’s America. This is just another attempt to fundamentally change who we are as a people and we must stop it. The more we allow these elected or unelected bureaucrats to regulate every aspect of our lives the more we lose as a people and as a nation. The more we become enslaved.

Liberty forever, freedom for all!

The TSA Is Still Groping Children In Airports

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Steve Watson
GCN Live.com
April 26, 2012

Agents coldly refer to kids as “suspects” and scream at parents who attempt to diffuse situations.

Two notable incidents this week indicate that despite a “change in policy” last year, the TSA is still conducting enhanced patdowns on children as young as four years old.

At a Kansas airport, a four year old girl was called a “suspect” and ordered to undergo a full patdown by TSA officers after hugging her grandmother during the screening process.

In a Facebook post, which has since been removed pending a formal complaint, the girl’s family noted that agents accused the child of potentially having a handgun in her possession when she ran to hug her grandmother during the screening process.

The TSA agents then threatened to shut down the entire airport unless the “suspect” was subjected to a full patdown. According to the family’s account, the agents were shouting at the girl, ordering her to co-operate, causing her to start screaming and kicking at them. The TSA workers even attempted to take the girl away from her family and frisk her in a separate room.

“…they didn’t explain anything and she did not know what was going on,” the girl’s grandmother said. “She saw people grabbing at her and raising their voices. To her, someone was trying to kidnap her or harm her in some way.”

In a separate incident, at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, the TSA forced a seven year old mentally handicapped girl to undergo an enhanced patdown because her use of crutches dictated that she could not walk through metal detectors.

The girl’s parents attempted to alleviate her anxiety by asking the TSA agents to calmly introduce themselves and explain what they were doing. However, the agents would have none of it and instead “were exceptionally aggressive,” according to the girl’s father.

After he began recording footage of the screening with his iPhone, one of the agents “started screaming at me and cursing me and threatening me,” he told The Daily.

“They’re harassing people,” said the father, Dr. Joshua Frank. “This is totally misguided policy.” Added Mrs. Frank: “They still attack her like she’s Osama bin Laden. It’s not fair.”

The family ended up missing their flight altogether because of the incident.

The TSA has defended agents in both incidents, issuing almost identical statements saying that they followed the correct procedures.

As we have previously reported, the TSA has revised its policy on patdowns of children on two separate occasions, yet the procedures have continued regardless.

The two new incidents this week highlight the fact that until it is written into law to make the grope-downs illegal, there is no safety net against TSA tyranny.

We cannot simply take the word of an agency that has repeatedly lied to the public about its actions over and over again.

FLASHBACK: No ‘enhanced’ pat-downs for kids, TSA says
