What is America’s Economic Breaking Point?

If there exists a single factor that can put enough pressure on the whole of the American economy and force it to crumble under its own weight, it’s the price the average American pays for gas. Extreme up-side gas price swings have preceded seven of the last eight American recessions, most recently in the summer of 2008 when drivers were forced to pay an all time high in excess of $4.50 per gallon at the pumps. What followed this spike – caused in part by tightening supplies, rising demand, easy money and a health dose of financial propaganda – was nothing short of the most severe financial and economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Nearly four years on the country finds itself in the midst of difficult times that havetaken their toll on millions of Americans through job losses, home foreclosures, un-servicable debt, and ever dwindling retirement savings. By all accounts, Americans are worse off today than they were ten years ago, and the state of our nation, despite what Washington’s media masters report, is fiscally, economically, and socially dire.

With an estimated national debt that will approach $20 trillion in just a couple of years, some $200 trillion in unfunded liabilities over the next twenty five years, scores of millions of Americans dependent on overburdened government safety nets to survive, and a rapidly shrinking domestic economy, the key question becomes,”what is America’s economic breaking point?”

The answer to this question becomes apparent in a recent documentary from Future Money Trends, which suggests that the breaking point for the U.S. economy comes when the cheap energy we have enjoyed for the better part of a century finally dries up.

Future Money Trends is expecting the U.S. to face the perfect storm of events that, when combined, will send gas prices past the breaking point for the average American.

There are three major catalysts that will cause gas prices to reach this breaking point.

Number one, the dollar is in a state of collapse caused by a continuous increase of the money supply by America’s central bank.

Two, instability in the middle east and a potential war with Iran would great disrupt the supply of oil.

Three, the supply of cheap, recoverable oil is dwindling along with a major increase in demand.

America is built for $50 oil and $2 a gallon gasoline. The seriousness of our situation should not be overlooked. We have multiple forces that will drive gas prices past America’s $5 per gallon breaking point… Rising gas prices caused by these three catalysts will break the backs of the American consumer, spiking prices to the point where present day normalcy is no longer the reality.

Via Future Money Trends

Though there is evidence that the peak oil theory of physical shortages is accurate, it’s not even so much that the world will run out of oil per se, as it is that we simply don’t have the technology to extract that oil at a cheap enough cost to maintain our current way of life.

If you consider the significant pressures currently facing the United States financial and economically, it’s not too much of a stretch to suggest that even a minimal rise in the price of gas could seriously hamper the consumption habits of the majority of our population, which in turn will further reduce economic growth. As Future Money Trends‘ Daniel Ameduri notes in the above documentary, even a $1 gas price move has a significant impact with the potential to extract $100 billion from the broader economy.

With gas prices at or above $4 in most parts of the country, we’re quickly approaching 2008′s breaking point. And for those who don’t think prices could exceed those historic highs of 2008, consider that most Europeans are already paying nearly $10 per gallon.

With rising demand from BRIC nations like China and India, tensions in the middle east and unprecedented monetary expansion, ten dollars may very well become a reality. Such a swing in prices would immediately shave some $600 billion in direct consumer consumption and shrink our economy by 5% almost instantly. And that doesn’t even include the consequences that will inevitably hit small businesses and their employees in the months following.

Going into 2008 Americans felt fairly confident about their savings, their ability to find work, and their overall outlook. After four years of malaise, the majority of Americans have lost that confidence, as their ability to maintain the standard of living to which they became accustomed over decades of rampant government spending and easy money has been seriously undermined.

At this point, as suggested by Ameduri, even a one or two dollar increase in the price of gas could be the breaking point that sends our economy and global financial markets into an unrecoverable tailspin. The psychological impact of $5 or $6 gas may cause more of a panic than the price itself, because the only thing keeping the system afloat at this point is confidence in our leadership and that the best-and-brightest will be able to mitigate the crisis.

We were able to suspend the worst when governments around the world stepped in previously and let loose everything in the quiver to abate a collapse. This time, however, with our debts piling up at unsustainable levels and our lenders rapidly diversifying out of U.S. based assets, we will not be so lucky.

Whether the breaking point has been breached is up for debate, but there’s a strong possibility the die has already been cast. With trillions of dollars in capital flows, government intervention and financial machinations behind the scenes, it’s impossible to predict the exact timeline or occurrence of events, but we may well have already crossed the Rubicon.

Assuming that a breaking point is inevitable simply because of our failure to fundamentally change anything since the original crisis took hold in 2008, we should look to history as a guide as a way to anticipate the consequences that follow unsustainable governance and monetary policy.

If history surrounding such events has taught us anything, it’s that we must presume whatever is coming will be brutal, violent and it will transpire so quickly that most people won’t realize what happened until they’re walking the streets with worthless paper money in their pockets looking for morsels of food to stock their pantries – we’re talking end of the world type stuff.

The collapse of nations and conventional paradigms is never an orderly thing.

Authorities Refuse to Disclose Details of Chicago Evacuation Plan

Information lockdown by Secret Service and city officials

City and federal authorities have reacted bizarrely to the revelation that the Red Cross has been ordered to prepare for the possible evacuation of Chicago during next month’s NATO summit by refusing to acknowledge that the directive came from them.

As we reported last week, Red Cross volunteers in the Milwaukee area were sent an email instructing them that, “The American Red Cross in southeastern Wisconsin has been asked to place a number of shelters on standby in the event of evacuation of Chicago.”

According to a chapter Red Cross spokesperson, “Our direction has come from the City of Chicago and the Secret Service.”

However, according to a CBS 2 report, the Secret Service has refused to even acknowledge the issue and “Chicago officials say the plan didn’t come from them.”

Chicago area tenants were also informed by management agencies that they should get ready to leave their homes in preparation for major rioting.

Despite the fact that the plan for evacuating citizens has stoked paranoia and confusion amongst residents, information about the procedure has seemingly been placed on lockdown.

Chicago NATO host committee officials also responded to reports that heavily armed security teams would be making themselves visible in federal buildings from this week onwards with ignorance, claiming they were “completely in the dark.”

It appears highly probable that many of the policing methods and emergency planning provisions are so over the top that authorities are loathe to disclose details for fear of a backlash before the event.

This reminds us of the previous administration’s continuity of government plans for the aftermath of a catastrophic event that were deemed so secret that even Congressman Peter DeFazio, who sat on the Homeland Security Committee with clearance to see classified material, was barred from viewing the details.

“Maybe the people who think there’s a conspiracy out there are right,” DeFazio said at the time, which is precisely the reaction the refusal to acknowledge the Chicago evacuation plan will also generate.

The effect that all this has is to create the perception that the mere act of exercising First Amendment rights is somehow dirty and criminal, and that it needs to be countered by the state using clandestine means with plans that are more suited to responding to debilitating terrorist attacks than public demonstrations.

Indeed, preparations to shut down roads and limit the size of trucks passing through certain highways mirrors “a procedure originally designed for use in an all-out emergency like a bioterrorism attack.”

The NATO summit represents a massive photo opportunity for the government to showcase how America is now a militarized police state, sending the message that any attempt to protest the new world order will be met by an army of gun-wielding goons, invasive surveillance technologies and pain-inducing torture tools.

Report fails to mention numerous banal activities characterized as suspicious behavior

Despite being the subject of online ridicule for months, flyers put out by the FBI under the ‘Communities Against Terrorism’ program, which frame behavior including using cash to pay for a cup of coffee as a suspicious activity, have been characterized as reasonable by the mainstream media, even as the New York Times admits that the FBI has originated most of the recent terror plots in the United States.

In a bizarrely headlined story entitled Are You a Terrorist?, CBS 12 lends the flyers credence by completely failing to mention the fact that they include a list of mundane behaviors that have nothing to do with terrorism or any relation to “suspicious activity” whatsoever.

As we highlighted earlier this year, one of the flyers sent out to Internet cafes instructs businesses to report people who regularly use cash to pay for their coffee as potential terrorists.

Other examples of suspicious behavior include anyone expressing concern about privacy while surfing online in public, which far from being a ‘suspicious activity’ is almost a prerequisite for using the web these days.

In a flyer issued to Military Surplus stores, the purchase of storable food supplies in bulk, an increasingly popular trend amongst “preppers,” is also defined as a potential indication of terrorism.

Despite the fact that the flyers are virtually useless in identifying real terrorists because they place activities performed by millions of Americans in the context of ‘suspicious behavior’, only serving to create an atmosphere of fear and distrust, the CBS 12 report includes none of the ludicrous examples listed above and instead quotes business owners who think the whole thing is a good idea.

“I think it’s a good list,” said Bernard Greenberg, who owns a hobby shop in Lake Worth, Florida, despite admitting that some of the ‘terrorist traits’ listed in the flyer would be shared by “A lot of people that walk into the store for the first time.”

In other words, treating everyone as ‘terrorist until proven innocent’ is necessary, even down to fathers who are looking to buy their kid a model aircraft as a birthday gift.

“Some of it seems a little bit over the top, but I am sure they have their reasons for what they are doing,” said Scuba Adventures owner Jim Abernathy, again framing the issue as reasonable and rational.

Except that is for the fact that the FBI don’t really have a good reason for what they are doing given that, as even the New York Times reported this past weekend, it’s the FBI itself which steers and provocateurs almost every terror plot from the very beginning.

After listing a number of major terror plots that have made the headlines in recent years, sounding more like Alex Jones than the Old Gray Lady, the report concedes that, “All these dramas were facilitated by the F.B.I., whose undercover agents and informers posed as terrorists offering a dummy missile, fake C-4 explosives, a disarmed suicide vest and rudimentary training. Suspects naïvely played their parts until they were arrested.”

Since the FBI itself has originated most of the major terror plots in the United States, why should a how-to list on spotting terrorists put out by the FBI be given any credibility at all?

The CBS 12 report also fails to mention the plethora of examples from other federal agencies where normal behavior is classified as potential terrorism, including a recent DHS document which lists yawning and getting goose bumps as two primary examples of suspicious activity.

A separate FBI report also reveals that the feds are now treating those who “believe the United States went bankrupt by going off the gold standard” as extremists who are a potential violent threat to law enforcement.

While the deluge of such examples clearly illustrates the trend of federal agencies engaging in fearmongering by brainwashing the public into thinking there’s a terrorist around every corner, the establishment media covers up the fact that the war on terror is being turned against the American people by blithely claiming it’s all normal and reasonable – when it clearly isn’t.

Watch a satire piece below in which Alex Jones is recruited to spot terrorists for Homeland Security.

NSI Instructional Video: Public Photography is Terrorism

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Kurt Nimmo
GCN Live.com
April 30, 2012

As part of an ongoing effort to create a Stasi-like surveillance grid in America, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, in association with the International Association of Chiefs of Police, has produced a video to assist in the training of officers as they go about detecting what the federal government considers to be suspicious activity. It is part of the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting Initiative (NSI).

The video instructs officers to consider photographers as possible terrorists who should be singled out for additional interrogation.

According to the video, street photography and photography of public buildings provides “justification for further analysis,” although the video emphasizes that photography “and other similar activities are protected activities unless connected to other suspicious activities that would indicate potential terrorism. This may cause the officer to conduct additional observation or gather additional information – again taking into account the totality of circumstances.”

“Photography, observation, or surveillance of facilities, buildings, or critical infrastructure and key resources beyond casual, tourism, or artistic interest, to include facility access points, staff or occupants, or security measures,” the video instructs.

The “acquisition or storage of unusual quantities of materials,” including cell phones and pagers, is considered to be a suspicious behavior.

While the NSI attempts to be politically correct – stating it does not profile individuals on the basis of race or religion – and also pays lip-service to privacy, it is the largest and most technologically sophisticated surveillance program in the nation’s history (a fact noted by none other than the Washington Post). It “collects, stores and analyzes information about thousands of U.S. citizens and residents, many of whom have not been accused of any wrongdoing,” the Post notes.

“The unprecedented network involves local police, state and military authorities feeding a growing database on thousands of US citizens and residents, even though many have never been charged with breaking the law,” AFP reported in 2010. “The apparatus breaks new ground in the United States — where domestic security measures traditionally have faced legal limits — and raises questions about safeguards for privacy and civil liberties.”

In fact, this is a fallacy – the government has surveilled and collected data on millions of Americans for decades.

Beginning with Operation Shamrock, the NSA has spied on Americans since the end of the Second World War. Operation Shamrock violated the Communications Act and the Fourth Amendment. In 2005, it was revealed that the NSA has continued to illegally monitor Americans by working with transnational telecoms to copy all email and web browsing in the United States and internationally.

The NSA is not alone. The FBI (most notoriously under COINTELPRO) and the CIA (Operation CHAOS) have long track records in not only surveilling Americans, but also disrupting – the FBI called it neutralizing – the legal political activities of countless Americans.

The NSI is part of a long and disreputable tradition in violation of the Constitution. Street photographers can expect to be singled out and considered members of al-Qaeda and other largely mythical terrorist fabrications.

The drift is unmistakeable. East Germany’s Stasi began by creating dossiers on its citizens and ended by imprisoning people for trying to leave the country, or telling political jokes. Secret executions and the deliberate irradiation of political prisoners with x-ray machines in an attempt to give them cancer was routine.

Trail of Death: Breitbart Coroner Turns Up Dead, Arsenic Poisoning Suspected

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Patrick Henningsen
GCN Live.com
April 30, 2012

Veteran Los Angeles coroner forensic technican Michael Cormier had died, apparently due to arsenic poisoning. The 61 year old Cormier was discovered dead on April 20th – the same day the city officials had released their preliminary autopsy report on the death of conservative media powerhouse Andrew Breitbart.

According to early reports, Michael Cormier was “seemingly healthy,” yet “suddenly stricken” with a fatal condition – just like Andrew Breitbart.

It’s the latest twist in the case of Andrew Breitbart’s untimely death that will surely fuel increased speculation into possible foul play – in both cases.

The sluggish release of the Breitbart autopsy follows the unorthodox, rushed announcement by city authorities at the time of Breitbart’s death that he had died of ‘natural causes’ on March 1, 2012 at the age of 43.

The timing of Breitbart’s death came on the eve of a few highly anticipated events. Firstly, he had announced that he would be releasing rare ‘game changing’, rather damning video footage of President Obama allegedly cavorting with communist activists years earlier. Some footage was released in the days after his death, but it is not believed to be material that would change the corse of the 2012 election as Breitbart had indicated beforehand. He was also due to reveal his new Breitbart.com format, and had met only one before his death with Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse team in Phoenix in relation to Obama’s forged PDF birth certificate and forged US Selective Service registration card.

The LA County Coroner’s office announced in their preliminary report that Breitbart had died of heart failure, and that a negligible amount of alcohol was found in his system. No prescription or illicit drugs were discovered at any point during the autopsy. The final, definitive medical explaination on Breitbart’s death has yet to be made public.

Coroner Michael Cormier’s mysterious death was first reported by KTLA TV reporter Elizabeth Espinosa explaining how city detectives were investigating a possible ‘arsenic poisoning’ in the case. This report was later picked up and reported in an LA Times Local blog:

“The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that finding the presence of poison does not necessarily mean the death was a homicide, because the substance could have accidentally entered his system.”

“At this point we haven’t ruled out foul play,” said Lt. Alan Hamilton of the Los Angeles Police Department. “It is one of the things being considered. We are waiting for the coroner’s results.”

A toxicology report is expected to be released sometime between May 25th and June 1st.

WND also recounted Breitbart’s early career, by summarizing:

Matt Drudge paid tribute to his colleague and friend with a posting on the Drudge Report: “In the first decade of the DRUDGEREPORT Andrew Breitbart was a constant source of energy, passion and commitment. We shared a love of headlines, a love of the news, an excitement about what’s happening. I don’t think there was a single day during that time when we did not flash each other or laugh with each other, or challenge each other. I still see him in my mind’s eye in Venice Beach, the sunny day I met him. He was in his mid 20′s. It was all there. He had a wonderful, loving family and we all feel great sadness for them today.”
