AFP: Busting the Bankers

American Free Press exclusive report.

What would happen if every American withdrew their money from major global-oriented banks and then deposited it in neighborhood credit unions or local financial institutions? To then send an even clearer message, what if these transactions occurred on Nov. 5—Guy Fawkes Day—a date made famous by the rebellious Hollywood movie V for Vendetta?

Such a notion has been labeled Bank Transfer Day, and it is the brainchild of Kristen Christian, a 27-year-old art gallery owner from California, who wrote on her Facebook page: “I started this because I felt like many of you do. I was tired of the fee increases, tired of not being able to access my money when I need to, tired of them using what little money I have to oppress my brothers and sisters.”

With tensions on the rise and financial unrest exemplified by the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) protests, Bank Transfer Day is intended as a peaceful boycott of mega banks. Kristen stated that such a bank run isn’t potentially damaging to the economy, as she is advocating people simply remove their money from large banking institutions and place it in a credit union.

She explained: “How can your funds have a positive impact on your community if tucked under your mattress? What’s being suggested is that you shift your money to a local not-for-profit credit union.

“The more business credit unions have, the more loans with low rates they’re able to offer to small and medium-sized businesses.”

While not affiliated with OWS, Kristen is clear there is a mutual respect. The difference seems to be that she is seeking a clear and definable action, easily implemented, while the OWS crowd seems to risk injury and police brutality to merely be present there.

However, there are already stories of arrests being made as customers attempt to withdraw their own money. According to “Washington’s Blog,” “Protesters were arrested when they tried to close their Citibank accounts.” They continued: “Bank of America used police (and reportedly SWAT teams) to stop St. Louis Bank of America customers from closing their accounts.” The following rationale was offered in at least one case: “A Bank of America branch in Santa Cruz refused to let protesters close their accounts, saying they could not be protesters and customers at the same time.”

Nov. 5 was chosen as Bank Transfer Day because, Kristen hopes: “This will give a new name to the fifth of November—not as a failed terrorist attack but as Americans standing up and saying we’ve had enough,” the Village Voice wrote on Oct. 7.

Kristen also told the Village Voice: “I’ve been very careful to state that this is not about bringing down the Fed. This is not an act of terrorism or treason. It’s a boycott. It’s as simple as that.” It remains to be seen if the powers that be will try to thwart Bank Transfer Day and crack down on OWS.

In V for Vendetta, the protagonist reminds viewers of this famous nursery rhyme inspired by his actions: “Remember, remember, the fifth of November / Gunpowder treason and plot / I see no reason /Why gunpowder treason / Should ever be forgot.”

Kenyan, Keynesian? We’re in Big Trouble

If the video below in any way reflects the mental capacity of the average American, we’re in big trouble. The folks interviewed appear to be incapable of reading English.

Well, one guy can – and he still doesn’t know if Obama is a Keynesian.

The Keynesian theory of economics became the norm after the Great Depression and the Second World War. It is the centralized, collectivist government approach to a managed economy. It is the philosophical core of a fiat paper money system manipulated by the bankers and their cartel, the Federal Reserve.

Millions of Americans are clueless when it comes to economics. Public schools do not teach students how modern collectivist economics works.

That’s why we have to stop calling Obama a Keynesian. He was born in Hawaii, after all.

Thanks to Karen De Coster for finding this very revealing video.

UN Warns Of Sharp Increase In Social Unrest

A prominent UN agency has issued a warning that the globe is hurtling toward a long recession, a 40 million worldwide job shortage and an increase in large scale social unrest.

In a report published today, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) warns that the world faces an imminent “dramatic downturn” in employment and urges the G20 to act to “soften the impact”.

Outlining that the globe faces a “new and deeper jobs recession”, the report, titled World of Work Report 2011: Making Markets Work for Jobs, warns that job creation is slowing and worldwide unemployment stands at a record of more than 200m.

“We estimate that for the next two years, the world economy would need 80 million jobs to bring the unemployment rate down to what it was before the crisis” in 2007, said Raymond Torres, who heads the ILO’s research institute.

Adding that the “world economy would create just 40 million jobs,” in that time, the report estimates that at current trend levels it will take at least five years to return employment in advanced economies to pre-crisis levels.

Of those 40 million newly created jobs, the ILO states that just 2.5 million will be created in advanced economies, leaving a shortage of 24.7 million jobs in industrialised states during 2012 and 2013.

The upshot of such massive shortages in employment will, according to the ILO, result in greater social unrest in 45 different countries.

“This is especially the case in advanced economies, notably the EU, the Arab region and to a lesser extent, Asia,” it said.

The report pinpoints the greatest risk of social unrest to Greece, Portugal, Spain, Estonia, France, Slovenia and Ireland.

Without counter-measures, the crisis will likely unleash a recession that could last a decade or more, the report adds.

Increasing labour market spending by half a% of gross domestic product would increase employment by between 0.4% and 0.8%, depending on the country, the ILO said.

“We have reached the moment of truth. We have a brief window of opportunity to avoid a major double-dip in employment,” said Torres.

Ron Paul: Declare Victory Bring Them Home!

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Congressman Ron Paul

Ron Paul is America’s leading voice for limited, constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, sound money, and a pro-America foreign policy.

Ron Paul Hope It is not too often I am pleased by the foreign policy announcements from this administration, but last week’s announcement that the war in Iraq was in its final stage and all the troops may be home for Christmas did sound promising. I have long said that we should simply declare victory and come home. It should not have taken us nearly a decade to do so, and it was supposed to be a priority for the new administration. Instead, it will be one of the last things done before the critical re-election campaign gets into full swing. Better late than never, but, examining the fine print, is there really much here to get excited about? Are all of our men and women really coming home, and is Iraq now to regain its sovereignty? And in this time of economic crisis, are we going to stop hemorrhaging money in Iraq? Sadly, it doesn’t look that way.

First and foremost, any form of withdrawal that is happening is not simply because the administration realized it was the right thing to do. This is not the fulfillment of a campaign promise, or because suddenly the training of their police and military is complete and Iraq is now safe and secure, but because of disagreements with the new government over a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). The current agreement was set up by the previous administration to expire at the end of 2011. Apparently the Iraqis refused to allow continued immunity from prosecution for our forces for any crimes our soldiers might commit on Iraqi soil. Can you imagine having foreign soldiers here, with immunity from our laws and Constitution, with access to your neighborhood?

Some 39,000 American troops will supposedly be headed home by the end of the year. However, the US embassy in Iraq, which is the largest and most expensive in the world, is not being abandoned. Upwards of 17,000 military personnel and private security contractors will remain in Iraq to guard diplomatic personnel, continue training Iraqi forces, maintain “situational awareness” and other functions. This is still a significant American footprint in the country. And considering that a private security contractor costs the US taxpayer about three times as much as a soldier, we’re not going to see any real cost savings. Sadly, these contractors are covered under diplomatic immunity, meaning the Iraqi people will not get the accountability that they were hoping for.

While I applaud the spirit of this announcement – since all our troops should come home from overseas – I have strong reservations about any actual improvements in the situation in Iraq, since plans are already being made to increase the number of troops in surrounding regions. What we really need is a new foreign policy and there is no indication that that is what we have gotten. On the contrary, the administration fully intends to keep troops in Iraq, indefinitely, under a new agreement, while the Iraqis are doing their best to assert their sovereignty and kick us out. Neither are we going to be saving any significant amount of money. My greatest fear, however, is that this troop withdrawal from Iraq will simply pave the way for more endless, wasteful, needless wars.

Bradlee Dean: Tossed From School – For Teaching the Truth

An article by Son’s of Liberty host Bradlee Dean featured on WorldNetDaily.com on October 18, 2011.

A federal judge on Tuesday blocked part of a new abortion law in North Carolina stating that providers must show an ultrasound image to pregnant women considering an abortion.

Why?

Why wouldn’t this judge and these pro-choicers want the mother to see her child before its murdered in her womb? Is it not because they know when a mother sees her child, she will preserve life rather than take it? This doesn’t work for their agenda.

Since the abortion agenda is pushed on students in America’s public schools, I decided to show them what the pro-choicers advocate. In most cases, students don’t know what an abortion truly is.

Watch as an armed guard escorts my ministry team and I out of a school assembly program because of a “tolerant” principal who is clearly advocating abortion. Out of 600 students present, three individuals (two teachers and one student) were supposedly so offended that they had to stop my assembly and disregard the 597 others in the room who were just being educated about abortion.

Here is a longer version of this video, which is excerpted from my DVD series, “My War”:
