Matt Lepacek (of We Are Change NYC) and I crashed the Billboard Music Awards and were in shock about how out of touch the two of us were with the mainstream music scene. Wasn’t it just a short time ago that we were both young, hip and with it?

As celebrities passed by, we both wondered out loud just how out of touch the mainstream was with “We The People”. We attempted to ask some of popular music’s most recognized performers questions about the Federal Reserve, Ron Paul and other issues of substance. As you can see they are completely out of the loop. When asked about Ron Paul, the eyes of performers like Black Eyed Peas appeared to visibly glaze over as they struggled internally to come to grips with the fact that a question was asked about them that was not about music or themselves.

Personally, this motivates me to work harder to educate and inform! Though some were well-researched and expressed some solid views, that reflected a very small percentage of the overall gathering. So long as we never give up and keep on fighting, we can help reach the likes of Vince Vaughn who has been an ardent supporter of Ron Paul for some time; even inviting the statesman to the premier of one of his blockbusters.

Now if you’re like me, you’re not particularly enamored by celebrity. We can not fail to recognize, however, the incredible volume of light these very visible people can shine on issues we all hold very close to our hearts. Ron Paul 2012!

Yemen Civil War Fear As Fighting Worsens

SANAA — Yemeni tribesmen said they wrested a military compound from elite troops loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh outside the capital Sanaa yesterday as increased fighting threatened to tip the country into civil war. Yemeni fighter jets could be heard breaking the sound barrier as they swooped over the capital, the scene of fighting between forces loyal to Saleh and the rival Hashed tribe led by Sadeq al Ahmar, close to the opposition party Islah.

Tribes outside the capital said they were also fighting government troops at two other military bases. In Sanaa, tens of thousands of people gathered after Friday prayers for what they said would be a “Friday of Peaceful Revolution” against Saleh, releasing white doves and carrying the coffins of about 30 people killed in clashes last week.

But the turnout for the rally was less than previous weeks with many people fleeing Sanaa and the government closing roads around the capital to keep out tribes trying to reinforce the Ahmars.

Machine-gun fire rattled across Sanaa and sporadic explosions were heard near a protest site where thousands of people demanding Saleh’s departure are still camped.

Fighting in Sanaa eased off later yesterday after mediation efforts under which the Al Ahmar tribe evacuated government ministry buildings they had grabbed during clashes last week in return for a ceasefire and troops pulling out from their area.

“We are now in mediation and there has been a ceasefire between the two sides … But if Ali Abdullah Saleh returned (to fighting) then we are ready. We are steadfast and victorious,” Sadeq al Ahmar told protesters in “Change Square”.

CAIRO – Thousands of protesters returned to downtown Cairo’s Tahrir Square Friday for what they called a “second revolution,” calling for Egypt’s military rulers to speed up the pace of democratic reforms in a country that is still charting its political future.

Protesters carried banners reading the “Egyptian revolution is not over” and chanted the slogan.

Christians and Muslims took turns praying in Tahrir Square, as they did in the protests that forced the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak in February. Sectarian clashes have turned deadly since the revolution.

The ruling military warned that “dubious” elements may try to cause chaos during Friday’s protests, and said it would stay clear of the protest area to avoid any friction.

Mohamed ElBaradei, the Egyptian Nobel Peace Prize winner and a reform leader, said that he was “seriously concerned about the absence of security forces.”

The military’s leadership of the country’s democratic transition has left many protesters dissatisfied.

Gov. Rick Perry (Eric Gay/Associated Press)

The pressure is on for Rick Perry to reverse his position and abandon his longtime refusal to consider a race for president. Conservative pundits have been begging the conservative Texan to enter the enthusiasm-challenged GOP presidential field.

Every interview, every press availability in the past week has included at least one question about a possible Perry presidential candidacy in 2012. Here are some recent highlights of comments by the governor that may shed some light on his evolving thinking.

We start out with an interview with Fox News host Greta Van Susteren:

VAN SUSTEREN: Are you tempted?

PERRY: Oh, I can’t say I’m not tempted, but the fact is: this is something I don’t want to do.

Politico’s take: “Rick Perry ‘tempted’ by White House run, but will pass.”

Dog with Two Broken Legs Survives Tornado, Crawls Home to Find Family

Amid the destruction and devastation that has followed the severe tornadoes sweeping across the country, there’s one touching survivor tail worth celebrating — and it wags. (See what we did there?)

Three weeks after a series of tornadoes blew through Alabama, leveling everything in their path, a family in North Smithfield returned to their damaged home to sift through debris. Miraculously, they found their missing dog Mason waiting for them on the porch.

With both of his front legs broken and his fur matted and dirty, Mason had obviously been through a terrible ordeal. According to MyFox Alabama, the terrier mix was hiding in his garage when the storm picked him up and blew him away. For weeks, his family searched but found no sign of their scrappy pup.

“This is probably the most dramatic we’ve seen as far as an injury in an animal that’s survived this long,” Phil Doster of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Animal Control Shelter told MyFox Alabama. “For an animal just to show up on someone’s porch after this time was pretty remarkable, especially with the condition he’s in.”
