Hackers May Have Stolen Sony PlayStation Network Credit Card Info

According to unverified reports, hackers have stolen about 2.2 million credit cards from Sony’s PlayStation Network.

Despite Sony’s claim yesterday that the database of credit card information was encrypted, security researchers say they’ve seen forum discussions where the hackers brag about having credit card numbers in their possession, and are threatening to sell the information for up to $100,000, the New York Times reports.

“Sony is saying the credit cards were encrypted, but we are hearing that the hackers made it into the main database, which would have given them access to everything, including credit card numbers,” Mathew Solnik, a security consultant with iSEC Partners, told the New York Times, citing discussions in hacker forums.

Security researcher Kevin Stevens of Trend Micro tweeted, “Supposedly the hackers selling the DB says it has: fname, lnam, address, zip, country, phone, email, password, dob, ccnum, CVV2, exp date.”

However in a later tweet Stevens said he had not seen the forum discussions himself and called responses to his tweet “a bunch of FUD,” or “fear, uncertainty, and doubt”: “I posted up what I saw to warn people, not to incite the masses to create FUD.”

As expected, PSN users have taken to online communities to report fraudulent charges on their linked credit card accounts.

“Just got called by my credit card company, been charged 2 grand for some Paypal account in China…nice one Sony. At least I get it back #PSN,” one user tweeted.

Radio Ink

Stories of lost lives and destroyed property are being broadcast all over the state of Alabama as communities try to find ways to deal with life after over 100 tornados changed their lives forever. The Citadel cluster in Tuscaloosa has set up a program called neighbors helping neighbors. Trucks are collecting much needed items like bottled water, canned food, can openers, baby diapers, baby formula, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies and charcoal. The stations are keeping the residents informed both on the air and through their social media properties.

One listener called into WJOX Thursday. Here’s just a taste of what’s being broadcast by all the stations in the hardest hit areas. Citadel Market Manager Bill Thomas told Radio Ink his team also had wall-to-wall coverage this week as the tornadoes ripped through the state of Alabama. “We’ve been on the air the entire time. People were calling us trying to find out where their loved ones were.” Thomas says if there are other stations interested in helping with the neighbors helping neighbors program they can contact him directly at bill.thomas@citcomm.com.

If you want to help, the Alabama Red Cross has set it up so you can text a $10.00 donation. Text Red Cross to 90999 and you will automatically be billed $10.00 on your next phone bill. That money will go directly to the Alabama Red Cross.

Dollar Loses More Ground

By STEPHEN L. BERNARD
Wall Street Journal

NEW YORK—The dollar dropped after economic indicators pointed to a dismal employment picture and slowing economic growth.

First-time claims for unemployment benefits jumped 25,000 to 429,000, indicating employers might have slowed their hiring recently. Economists were expecting claims to fall to 395,000.

At the same time, gross domestic product rose at a modest 1.8% pace in the first quarter, matching economists’ forecasts. However, the pace of expansion is much weaker than it was at the end of 2010, when the economy was growing at 3.1% pace.

NATO has begun “a hunt for Gaddafi with the aim of eliminating him”, reported the British Sky News TV channel. Blows delivered to Gaddafi’s residence in Tripoli in the small hours of Monday are a reflection of this new course of action. NATO air force fired missiles at the building where Gaddafi met with the delegation of the African Union several days ago.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the political leaders of a number of Western countries have appealed to NATO “to recognize Gaddafi as a target for elimination”. The situation in Libya is in a deadlock and Gaddafi’s elimination is one of the solutions,” the newspaper quotes some western political scientists’ opinion.
