We’re led to believe that the United States government is a positive force in the world but this is not true. I’m not saying it couldn’t be in the future, in fact, once there is a regime change in Washington, America will become the greatest country in the world again, but as it is now, the deceitful and manipulative leaders in the CIA, the Federal Reserve, the White House, the State Department, and the Pentagon are the most destructive force in the world, and pose the greatest existential threat to human civilization, and world peace.

This is not the American government that the American people elected.

This is not an American government that the American people elected. It is not a government at all. It is a gang. And this gang which runs Washington is bipartisan, unethical, and treasonous. They are engaged in a grand conspiracy against freedom, peace, America, and the world. No doubt, if the true defenders of freedom and peace emerge victorious against this criminal gang, there will be public executions on Pennsylvania Avenue in the decade ahead.

All this is overwhelming, and scary. Nevertheless, it is true. The historical reality that the world must learn to accept, especially the American people, is that the American government was hijacked from the inside by right-wing fascists and oligarchs over the course of many decades, starting in 1913 with the creation of the private Federal Reserve Bank that has the monopoly of credit, followed by the establishment of the National Security State in 1947, the history-changing assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, and finally, the government-engineered attacks on September 11, 2001. These four events stand out in my mind as the major turning points in the last hundred years of American history. What was once a great and mighty constitutional republic was transformed into a dictatorship, a global killing machine, the bully of the world, all the while posing as the white-hat defender of democracy and freedom.

This new history is not all that hard to come to terms with after we take some essential first steps into topics like the JFK assassination and the 9/11 truth movement. Learning about new spheres of knowledge, history, and reality is similar to discovering new lands. Both are journeys into the unknown. Pioneers of thought and discoverers of previously uninhabited places share a lot of qualities with each other. Both take a great risk with their whole being, not just their reputation, and once they’re successful in their exploration of new ideas and new lands they give something new to humanity.

As a culture we have lost knowledge about the substance of history, who shapes history, who tells it, and why they tell it a certain way. Winston Churchill said “History is written by the victors.” Victors can be whole nations, or they can be certain factions within a particular nation like oligarchs, industrialists, and financiers, or the people at large. When America won WWII, American soldiers received new homes and new loans to go to school, but American oligarchs got an empire. Who was the true victor, then? Obviously, it was not the American people. They were lied to a generation later by their highest ranking leaders about a new war in Vietnam that didn’t need to be fought. Such grand deceit and government lies about war has been part of American politics from World War II up to now.

If we want to recapture the history of the last century we must realize that history is not a sequence of events that proceed unrelated and unconnected. History is cause and effect. The murder of John F. Kennedy meant the war in Vietnam could be expanded, and the CIA would remain intact and powerful enough to influence world events. That is how history flows. What matters is not popular vote, but the perception of any given event, and the understanding of history.

History is full of visionaries like JFK, Martin Luther King Jr, and Robert F. Kennedy who are killed by the status quo of their era. Understanding why these three men were killed is not rocket science. They were the true voices of freedom and peace, and because of their influence in society and capability to sway public opinion they were assassinated. History is filled with the dreams of oligarchs, populists, radicals, psychopaths, revolutionaries, visionaries, and peacemakers. Sometimes men of good will triumph, and sometimes they don’t. In one era people witness the birth of a new nation, and in another era people witness revolutions, coups, and other kinds of national transformations.

Once more in history the American people must throw off tyranny’s chains. Unlike before, tyranny is coming in the form of a transnational police state, and its chains are spread out across the Atlantic, binding both Europe and North America in slavery. The main justification behind this police state is that all Western nations face the threat of terrorism. But this is a false justification. The War on Terror is in reality a War on Citizens. 9/11 was not done by Al-Qaeda, but by leaders in the United States government, and the Israeli government.

The Bush administration simplistically portrayed the new global fight against terrorism that was sparked by the government staged 9/11 attacks as “Us vs. Them” – us representing the forces of civilization, and them, identified as stateless terrorists and states that sponsor terrorism, representing the forces of barbarism and savagery. But people knew this picture of reality wasn’t true even in the immediate moments after the attacks happened. Critics of the new War on Terror paradigm pointed to U.S. militarism abroad, and the CIA’s legacy of overthrowing democratically elected leaders as evidence that the United States government is not innocent. But the truth abut the origins of the War on Terror, and the 9/11 attacks go much deeper.

The truth about 9/11 shows that the psychopathic individuals who control U.S. foreign policy, and their equally criminal partners in Israel and England, are the greatest source of terror and conflict in the world. The hardliners in Iran come after the Washington-Tel Aviv-London Axis on the list of the biggest existential threats to humanity and civilization, but there’s a big gap in between them. The only hope for peace in the world is regime change in Washington, London, and Tel Aviv, not Tehran. Of course, regime change in all four countries would be the best outcome.

Make no mistake, we are all in the fight for human civilization and the destiny of humanity, but the biggest forces of barbarism that we must oppose are not in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or Iran, but in Washington, Tel Aviv, London, Ottawa, and Melbourne. The War on Terrorism that is being waged by Western governments is a criminal war and anybody who continues to defend it will become spiritually and morally bankrupt.

Waking up to this new history is paralyzing at first, but it is better to be awake then to continue to live in a vegetative state, believing a false reality. As a result of this new political awakening, we are all feeling individually and collectively what Franz Kafka felt in the beginning of the last century, the feeling of a “seasickness on dry land.” I think it is a good feeling because it’s good to be aware that something isn’t right, that something must be addressed, and repaired. Better to feel this than to feel nothing, or to feel the wrong thing like when those crowds in Washington experienced jubilation after the crooked, self-serving Barack Obama was declared the new President.

Suppressing true emotion, and real knowledge is not good. Sometimes we need to go through a dark night of the soul, both individually and collectively. We will come out stronger. Our lives will be better. And we will pass on a brighter future to those who will come after us.

Refusing to face a crisis doesn’t make the crisis go away. John F. Kennedy knew he had to face the Cuban Missile Crisis from a sober and independent standpoint and come to his own conclusions rather than trust the information given to him by his military and intelligence advisers who had another agenda than that of peace. President Kennedy was a true leader, in the tradition of Washington and Lincoln, and his death was a great loss, but the loss of history is even greater. We must remember what he did, and why he did it. He did it for us, not just America, but for all of humanity.

Author and peace activist James W. Douglass has done an unbelievable job in reclaiming history, and preserving John F. Kennedy’s flame. His book, “JFK And The Unspeakable: Why He Died And Why It Matters,” must be read by all who are interested in reclaiming history.

“The story of why John Kennedy died encircles the earth. Because JFK chose peace on earth at the height of the Cold War, he was executed. But because he turned toward peace, in spite of the consequences to himself, humanity is still alive and struggling. That is hopeful, especially if we understand what he went through and what he has given us as his vision.

At the climax of his presidency in the missile crisis, John Kennedy turned a corner. Although JFK was already in conflict with his national security managers, the missile crisis was the breaking point. At that most critical moment for us all, he turned from the remaining control his security managers had over him toward a deeper ethic, a deeper vision in which the fate of the earth became his priority. Without losing sight of our own best hopes in this country, he began to home in, with his new partner, Nikita Khrushchev, on the hope of peace for everyone on this earth–Russians, Americans, Cubans, Vietnamese, Indonesians, everyone–no exception. He made that commitment to life at the cost of his own.

What a transforming story that is.

And what a propaganda campaign has been waged to keep us Americans from understanding that story, from telling it, and from re-telling it to our children and grandchildren.

Because that’s a story whose telling can transform a nation. But when a nation is under the continuing domination of an idol, namely war, it is a story that will be covered up. When the story can liberate us from our idolatry of war, then the worshippers of the idol are going to do everything they can to keep the story from being told. From the standpoint of a belief that war is the ultimate power, that’s too dangerous a story. It’s a subversive story. It shows a different kind of security than always being ready to go to war. It’s unbelievable–or we’re supposed to think it is–that a president was murdered by our own government agencies because he was seeking a more stable peace than relying on nuclear weapons. It’s unspeakable. For the sake of a nation that must always be preparing for war, that story must not be told. If it were, we might learn that peace is possible without making war. We might even learn there is a force more powerful than war. How unthinkable! But how necessary if life on earth is to continue.

That is why it is so hopeful for us to confront the unspeakable and to tell the transforming story of a man of courage, President John F. Kennedy. It is a story ultimately not of death but of life–all our lives. In the end, it is not so much a story of one man as it is a story of peacemaking when the chips are down. That story is our story, a story of hope.” – James W. Douglass. (2008). JFK And The Unspeakable: Why He Died And Why It Matters. New York: Simon & Schuster. Pg. 384 – 385. The quote is an excerpt from the Afterword, written on January 6, 2010, that appears in the paperback version of the book.

Food safety bill invokes Codex harmonization and grants FDA authority to police food safety of foreign nations

Of all the talk about S.510, virtually no one has actually read the language in the bill — especially not those lawmakers who voted for it. The more you read from this bill, the more surreal it all becomes. For example, did you know there’s a global FDA power grab agenda hidden in the Food Safety Modernization Act? Keep reading and I’ll quote text straight out of the bill itself.

The global food control agenda is a conspiracy, not a theory.

Section 305 is entitled “BUILDING CAPACITY OF FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS WITH RESPECT TO FOOD SAFETY” and it gives the FDA authority to set up offices in foreign countries and then dictate the food safety plans of foreign governments. It says, specifically, on page 217 of the bill (http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-…):

SEC. 308. FOREIGN OFFICES OF THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION.

(a) IN GENERAL. – The Secretary shall establish offices of the Food and Drug Administration in foreign countries selected by the Secretary.

It then goes on to say:

(a) The Secretary shall, not later than 2 years of the date of enactment of this Act, develop a comprehensive plan to expand the technical, scientific, and regulatory food safety capacity of foreign governments, and their respective food industries, from which foods are exported to the United States.

Huh? The FDA is now going to run the food safety programs of foreign governments? Look out, world: I’m from the FDA and I’m here to help!

Homeland Security and U.S. Treasury also involved

So who is involved in creating this? Believe it or not, the global “food safety” plan is to be developed under consultation to the Department of Homeland Security as well as the U.S. Treasury. As the bill states:

(b) Consultation – In developing the plan under subsection (a), the Secretary shall consult with the Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the United States Trade Representative, and the Secretary of Commerce, representatives of the food industry, appropriate foreign government officials, nongovernmental organizations that represent the interests of consumers, and other stakeholders.

You might reasonably wonder “What does the Department of Homeland Security have to do with the FDA’s food safety plan?” Or “Why is the U.S. Treasury involved in the food supply?” Learn more about the Federal Reserve and you’ll have the answers to these questions. I don’t have space for all the details here, but read Ed Griffin’s book and visit http://www.realityzone.com if you really want to know what’s behind a lot of this.

Codex harmonization, data sharing and more

So what does this global food safety plan actually entail? It’s all spelled out right in the language of the law. You can view this yourself on page 195 of the bill text in the PDF file at http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-…

(c) Plan – The plan developed under subsection (a) shall include, as appropriate, the following:

* “Provisions for secure electronic data sharing.”

This is so that the FDA can electronically track and monitor the food production activities of foreign nations. That way, if somebody in Spain tries to sell raw almonds to the USA, the FDA can make sure those almonds get irradiated or fumigated with chemicals first. Because raw almonds are so dangerous they have actually been outlawed in America (http://www.naturalnews.com/021776.html).

* “Training of foreign governments and food producers on United States requirements for safe food.”

This is designed to shove the FDA’s “dead food” agenda down the throats of other nations. The FDA, you see, believes that the only safe food is dead food — that’s why, along with the USDA, they have declared war on raw milk, raw almonds and many raw vegetables (http://www.naturalnews.com/023015_f…).

Now, with this law, the FDA will begin pushing its dead foods agenda globally, essentially exporting the FDA’s agenda of death and disease by making sure other nations destroy the nutritive qualities of their food supply in the same way the U.S. is doing. It’s all great for the global Big Pharma profiteers, of course. The more disease they can spread around the world, the more money they’ll make from selling medications.

Codex Alimentarius is also promoted in the bill

The “Plan” described in this bill continues with the following:

* “Recommendations on whether and how to harmonize requirements under the Codex Alimentarius.”

This is included so that the FDA will “harmonize” the U.S. food and dietary supplement industries with global Codex requirements which outlaw virtually all healthy doses of vitamins and minerals. Under full Codex “harmonization,” America will be left with a dead food supply and the health food stores will be virtually stripped bare of dietary supplements. Selling vitamin D at a reasonable dose such as 4,000 IU per capsule will be criminalized and products will be seized and destroyed by FDA agents who recruit local law enforcement to bring in the firepower.

All this will, of course, ensure a diseased, nutritionally-deficient U.S. population. This actually seems to be the goal the FDA has been trying to achieve all along because the more diseased the population, the more money gets collected by Big Pharma for “treating” sick people with medication and chemotherapy.

It’s all right in the bill!

The text mentioned in this article is taken straight from the bill itself. You can search for it at http://thomas.loc.gov by searching for “S.510″ as the bill number.

It makes me wonder why some food book authors so wholeheartedly supported this bill. Why were so many progressives on the left so enamored with this law? Didn’t they realize this was a huge FDA power expansion that would destroy many small farms and put farmers out of business while subjecting the USA to possible Codex harmonization?

Did they even know the FDA is now on a global food-killing agenda that will seek to pasteurize, fumigate, cook or kill virtually every piece of food that enters the United States?

Did they not know that the bill does absolutely nothing to limit the use of chemical pesticides on imported food? According to the FDA’s stance on all this, foods laced with DDT and other pesticides are perfectly “safe” for human consumption, but foods teeming with probiotics — such as raw milk — are deadly and dangerous! (Seriously…)

How is it that popular food book authors and food documentary producers could possibly support this bill? Do they also think small dairy farmers who sell raw milk should be criminalized? Do they agree with the Codex harmonization agenda? Do they think the FDA should run the world’s food safety systems and that the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Treasury should be shaping our global food safety agenda?

You really just have to shake your head and wonder about the true intentions of some people. I just have to ask: Were the supporters of this bill really so naive that they could somehow believe the FDA would actually seek to protect small, local organic farms? What about raw milk producers? What about the single-family farms that must now apply to the FDA for exemption status by authoring research reports, collecting tax returns and producing a pile of documentation the FDA will soon require?

Let me just say it bluntly: The Food Safety Modernization Act is the destroyer of local organic farming. It will gut small farms and local farms, greatly increasing the price of local organic food while decreasing America’s food security. Farmers’ Markets will be targeted by FDA agents who raid the operations of local farmers and imprison them for not having the right paperwork. Families will be destroyed, and those who have been successful at local food production will scale back their operations in a desperate effort to duck under the $500,000 / year rule (which can easily be surpassed by producing just ten acres of organic carrots, by the way).

The real agenda behind the bill

From another point of view, however, this bill is doing exactly what it was supposed to do: Destroy small farms, wipe out family farm operations, imprison raw milk producers and centralize food production in the hands of the big corporate food producers whose operations are steeped in pesticides and soil degradation.

This bill should have been called the “Big Agriculture Monopoly Act” because that’s what it does. It will ensure that America’s food supply will be controlled by Monsanto, DuPont and other agricultural giants who have been at odds with small organic farms for years.

The global food control agenda is a conspiracy, not a theory

It’s all part of the global food control agenda that we now know to be 100% true based on the leaked Wikileaks cables which revealed that the U.S. government conspired to push GMOs into Europe and “create a retaliatory target list” for any nation that resisted GMOs (such as France). Read that full report right here on NaturalNews: http://www.naturalnews.com/030828_G…

Thanks to Wikileaks, we now know that the global GMO conspiracy is quite real. It’s something that U.S. diplomats and government officials scheme on in order to appease their corporate masters in the agriculture industry. Now, with the Food Safety Modernization Act, this global conspiracy extends beyond GMOs and encompasses the global food supply, too.

It has become clear that U.S. lawmakers and bureaucrats will not stop until they have killed the entire global food supply, rendering living foods, raw foods and dietary supplements illegal or impossibly difficult to grow. You can thank your U.S. Congresspeople and Senators for all this, of course. In the end, every Senator in office today caved in and voted to pass this bill. You can also thank those who publicly promoted this bill even while having no real idea of the horrors they were supporting.

Such begins a new era of global food destruction headed by what can only be called the most dangerous government agency in North America: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration. If they do to your food what they’ve done to prescription drugs, annual food deaths will increase to over 100,000 a year.

Watch for the FDA to now set up enforcement offices in nations all around the world and start outlawing living foods on a global scale (if they can get away with it).

Also, watch for a new push for Codex harmonization which is a truly evil agenda to criminalize healing foods and nutritional supplements that prevent and even reverse chronic disease.

Chris Matthews Wants Obama to Produce Birth Certificate

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

December 29, 2010

MSNBC is worried that the “birther issue” has grown legs and is about to swamp the Barry Obama administration. In the video here, propaganda meister and master purveyor of the false right-left paradigm, Chris Matthews, leads establishment journalists Clarence Page and David Corn in a slimy round-about denunciation of their fellow citizens who dare ask for definitive proof that Obama was born in Hawaii as claimed.

The MSNBC segment follows vows by Hawaii governor Neil Abercrombie to end the circus sideshow that was created by the establishment media around the issue. “This has to do with the people in Hawaii who love him, people who loved his mom and dad. This has to do with the respect of the office that the president is entitled to,” huffed the Democrat.

Barack Obama Sr. was an avowed Marxist connected to CIA operations in Kenya. Stanley Ann Dunham, president Obama’s mother, engaged in CIA espionage activities in Indonesia. She worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), a documented CIA front, and the globalist Ford Foundation. For more on this, see investigative journalist Wayne Madsen’s article, The Story of Obama: All in The Company.

Regardless of the sentimentality of Abercrombie and the Democrats, it should be mandatory for Obama to prove that he is indeed a natural born American citizen, as spelled out in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution of the United States. It has nothing to do with respect, as Abercrombie insists, but the law.

Matthews is flummoxed by a poll that indicates 20 percent of respondents do not believe Obama was born in the United States. It is difficult to write this large number of people off as mere idiots, anti-Obama zealots, or – the most common accusation – racists.

Matthews’ tone during the segment is demonstrative. Liberals and Democrats are understandably worried the “birther” issue will explode in their faces.

“Why has the president himself not demanded they put out the original documents?” Matthews demands to know. “If it exists, why not put it out?”

This represents a major capitulation for Matthews, who has in the past not only dismissed the question, but led the charge in attacking those who asked to see the original document.

It is also a new tactic for the establishment now that a growing number of people are asking where the documentation is that conclusively proves Obama is indeed an American citizen and entitled to be president.

Expect a manufactured birth certificate to be forthcoming.

TSA or T&A?

As Americans continue to voice their opposition to naked body scanners and aggressive pat downs perpetrated by the Transportation Security Administration, one thing is clear: this issue is not showing any signs of abating, despite the federal government’s attempts to assuage the public’s well-founded concerns.

Over Christmas weekend, Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano took to the airwaves, with a message that was obviously directed at holiday travelers. According to Yahoo! News:

Napolitano in an interview broadcast Sunday insisted the practices will not change for the “foreseeable future.”
The new technology and the pat-downs are “objectively safer for our traveling public,” said Napolitano, adding she’s always looking to improve the security systems in place.

DHS Chief Napolitano continues to tell us that the only choice we have is not to fly.

It is safe to assume that if the American people were happy with this state of affairs that Napolitano would not be sent out to propagandize the masses on weekend news programs.

The topic has been at the top of the list of hot topics across the board with GCN programming lately. Hosts such as Erskine, Katherine Albrecht, Alex Jones, and Butch Paugh are all discussing the issue, and callers are lighting up the studio lines wanting to vent their rage and frustration.

YouTube is rife with news stories and personal documentation of TSA abuse. Here are the latest, all uploaded within the past seven days.

North American Integration Back on the Front Burner‏‏

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Dana Gabriel
Be Your Own Leader
December 29, 2010

In the last year, the bilateral process has been the primary means used to advance North American integration, which has drawn little attention. With the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) seemingly stalled after being exposed and discredited, the U.S. channeled trilateral negotiations to parallel bilateral discussions with both Canada and Mexico. Recent reports of a tentative Canada-U.S. security and trade agreement has once again highlighted the whole process of deep continental integration. The U.S. is formulating a strategy with the aim of implementing a North American security perimeter.

NAFTA has allowed the U.S. to further extend its political and economic influence over the continent. Through the SPP, it has evolved to include more security issues. Based on the war on drugs and the war on terrorism, the U.S. is developing a North American security strategy with the goal being to push out its security perimeter. The Merida Initiative conceived in 2007 and launched the following year by the Bush administration, signalled a new era of U.S.-Mexico security collaboration. The plan has provided Mexico with millions in funding for law enforcement, military equipment and surveillance technology. Under the pretext of combating illegal drug-trafficking and fighting transnational organized crime, the U.S. has been able to exert more authority over Mexican security policies.

President Obama has continued and expanded the Merida Initiative. The U.S. and Mexico have further broadened and deepened their cooperation. A U.S. State Department fact sheet entitled United States-Mexico Security Partnership: Progress and Impact proclaimed how both, “governments have built on the foundations of the Merida Initiative to establish four strategic areas to guide our cooperation and institutionalize our partnership: disrupt organized criminal groups; strengthen institutions; create a 21 st century border; and build strong and resilient communities.” A New Border Vision for the 21st century is, “based on the principles of joint border management, co-responsibility for cross-border crime, and shared commitment to the efficient flow of legal commerce and travel.” A U.S.-Mexico declaration issued in May, further highlights key goals in strengthening border security. In order to better coordinate the implementation of joint initiatives, the Twenty-First Century Border Bilateral Executive Steering Committee (ESC) was also established.

On December 15, the ESC’s inaugural meeting was held where a Bilateral Action Plan was adopted. This included initiatives in areas of bi-national infrastructure coordination, risk management, pre-clearance, pre-screening and pre-inspection, along with greater law enforcement cooperation. The ESC also announced other cross-border and pilot projects. They agreed to expand trusted traveler and shipper programs in order to facilitate the flow of people and goods between the two countries. The specific goals that were laid out set in motion a bilateral agenda for the next year. They represent a move towards a common perimeter approach to border management and security, which could later require harmonization of immigration and customs standards.

It is unclear whether the Obama administration will attempt to overhaul immigration laws in the coming year. The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2010 S. 3982 was introduced in September, but never came to a vote in the last Congress. In SEC 121. Annual Report on Improving North American Security Information Exchange, it refers to, “developing and implementing an immigration security strategy for North America that utilizes a common security perimeter by enhancing technical assistance for programs and systems to support advance automated reporting and risk targeting of international passengers.” Previous failed security and immigration bills have also contained similar language pertaining to a shared security perimeter around the continent.

There are fears that a leaked draft declaration between Canada and the U.S. entitled Beyond the Border: A Shared Vision for Perimeter Security and Competitiveness could concede more control to American interests. According to the draft proposal, the agreement would work towards establishing a perimeter approach to security. This includes closer cooperation between law enforcement agencies, an integrated cargo strategy, as well as joint programs for port and border security and screening. The aim is to further facilitate travel and trade across the northern border. The draft document also reveals that both countries intend to establish the Beyond the Border Working Group which will, “report to their respective Leaders within one hundred and twenty days of the signing of this Declaration with, a joint Plan Of Action to realize the goals.” Many of the key objectives of the tentative Canada-U.S. deal mirror those found in the U.S.-Mexico vision for a 21st century border. This includes the whole process of implementing the various bilateral initiatives. Both border plans represent a continuation of the SPP agenda.

The Canada-U.S. security perimeter agreement also appears to contain elements of the US-VISIT program which involves, “the collection of biometrics—digital fingerprints and a photograph—from international travelers at U.S. visa-issuing posts and ports of entry.” The leaked draft declaration states, “We intend to work towards common standards for the use of biometrics, the sharing of information on travelers in real time, more precisely tailored screening, and improved methods of threat notification.” It goes on to say, “In order to promote mobility between our two countries, we expect to work towards an integrated United States-Canada entry-exit system by identifying and screening at the earliest opportunity – including through use of biometrics.” A common security perimeter would demand an even greater level of collaboration and would ultimately be defined by U.S. priorities. It also represents an important step in the creation of a North American Union.

After being tight-lipped on the subject, Prime Minister Stephen Harper in a recent interview, “confirmed Canada is holding ‘discussions’ with the United States on a deal that would tighten security against external terrorist threats and improve two-way trade between the countries.” He acknowledged that negotiations continue, but an agreement has yet to be reached. There have been reports that a deal could be announced early in new year. Some believe that a common security perimeter would constitute erasing the borders between the two countries. Toronto Star columnist Thomas Walkom suggests that, “The U.S. would be happy to control Canada’s borders to the outside world. But no U.S. politician who wants to get re-elected would ever agree to weakening America’s northern border with Canada.” He goes on to say, “So the upshot of any perimeter deal will be to give the U.S two borders — an outer one around North America and an inner one at the 49th parallel.” The same concept could also be applied to the southern border. A North American security perimeter goes well beyond keeping the U.S. safe from any perceived threats. It is a means to secure trade, resources and corporate interests.

After a one year hiatus, Canada is set to host the next edition of the North American Leaders Summit in 2011. The recent North American Foreign Ministers Meeting was used to build on the progress made since the last leaders summit which was held in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2009. It helped shape the agenda for the upcoming summit, where the whole trilateral process in regards to continental integration could be recast. As 2010 comes to a close, it appears as if North American integration is back on the front burner.
